Set this correctly according to the external component connected to the DIGITAL OUT
connectors on the rear.
• See "Digital output signal chart" on page 92 for details about the relation between the
setting and output signals.
• PCM ONLY:
• DOLBY DIGITAL/PCM: Select when connecting the digital input connector of a Dolby
• STREAM/PCM:
To correctly play the audio in a DVD Video disc recorded with surround multichannel audio,
set this properly according to your audio system configuration.
• DOLBY SURROUND: Select when listening to multichannel surround audio through a

This function does not take effect when 3D PHONIC is activated.
This setting provides optimal audio quality through the DVD/HDD AUDIO OUT and L-1 IN/
OUT connectors on the rear, for listening to DVD Video discs recorded in Dolby Digital
format, at low or middle volume.
• WIDE RANGE:Select to enjoy powerful playback sound with the widest dynamic range.
• NORMAL:
Normally, select this.
• TV MODE:
Select if DVD Video disc sound level is lower than TV programme sound
level. Thus you can hear sound at a lower volume clearly.
This setting allows you to attenuate the level of the signal output through the DVD/HDD
AUDIO OUT and L-1 IN/OUT connectors on the rear.
• STANDARD: Normally, select this.
• LOW:
Select if the reproduced sounds are distorted.

Select when connecting to the linear PCM digital input connector
of other audio equipment such as an MD recorder.
Digital decoder or an amplifier with a built-in Dolby Digital
decoder.
Select when connecting the digital input connector of an
amplifier with a built-in DTS, MPEG Multichannel or Dolby
Digital decoder, or the stand-alone unit of such a decoder.

connectors on the rear.
