Getting started: NFC technology

About NFC technology
NFC technology is a short-range, wireless technology designed to allow you to quickly exchange information between your
BlackBerry® smartphone and smart accessories, smart payment terminals, smart access points, and smart tags. You can also
use NFC technology to set the actions performed by a smart dock or to save, view, create, or change smart posters.
To use NFC technology on your smartphone, NFC technology must be turned on, the backlight on your smartphone must be
turned on, and your smartphone's NFC hotspot must be within approximately 1 in. (2 cm) of the smart payment terminal,
smart accessory, smart access point, or smart tag that you want to exchange information with.
Depending on your wireless service provider and the applications you have added to your smartphone, you might be able to
use your smartphone as a transit pass, an access pass, or a credit card by tapping your device against a smart access point or
smart payment terminal, subject to applicable terms and conditions from the particular vendor.
Turn on or turn off NFC technology
On the Home screen, click the connections area at the top of the screen, or click the Manage Connections icon.
• To turn on NFC technology, select the NFC checkbox.
• To turn off NFC technology, clear the NFC checkbox.
