One-Touch Gearshifting; Positions - Mercedes-Benz C Class Owner's Manual

The automatic transmission shifts into in-
dividual gears automatically. This auto-
matic gearshifting behaviour is determined
by:
I the selector lever position D with shift
ranges 6*, 5*, 4, 3, 2 and 1

I the gearshift program selected (S/C)

e
( page 116)
I the position of the accelerator pedal
( e page 115)
I the road speed
Vehicle with a luxury multi-function steer-
ing wheel*
1 Shift range/selector lever position
2 Gearshift program (S/C) or (S/C/M)*
The current shift range and the gearshift
program (S/C) or (S/C/M)* is shown in
the instrument cluster display.
When the selector lever is in position D,
you can modify the gear shifting of the au-
tomatic transmission by restricting the
shift range or shifting gear yourself.
Selector lever positions
ì Park position
Prevents the vehicle from rolling
away when stopped. Only move
the selector lever to P when the
vehicle is stationary.
The key can only be removed
when the selector lever is in posi-
tion P. When there is no key in
the ignition lock, the selector lev-
er is locked in position P.
í Reverse gear
Only move the selector lever to R
when the vehicle is stationary.

Transmission
ë Neutral
No power is transmitted from the
engine to the drive wheels. Re-
leasing the brakes will allow you
to move the vehicle freely, e.g. to
push it or tow it.
Do not move the selector lever to
N while you are driving. The auto-
matic transmission could other-
wise be damaged.

If ESP is deactivated or faulty:
only move the selector lever to N
if the vehicle is in danger of skid-
ding, e.g. on icy roads.
ê Drive
The automatic transmission
changes gear automatically. All
five forward gears are available.
Vehicles with 7G-TRONIC*: all
seven forward gears are avail-
able.

One-touch gearshifting

When the selector lever is in position D,
you can perform gearshifts yourself, even
on vehicles with automatic transmission.
