Automatic transmission

Selector lever positions

Parking lock
ì
Park position with selector lever
lock. Engage the parking lock
only when the vehicle is station-
ary. It is then additionally pro-
tected when the engine is
switched off.
You can only remove the key
from selector lever position P.
When the key is removed, the
selector lever is locked in posi-
tion P.
Reverse gear

Only move the selector lever to
position R when the vehicle is
stationary.

Neutral

No power is transferred from
the engine to the drive wheels.
The vehicle is free to move when
the brakes are released, to be
pushed or towed for example.
Do not move the selector lever
to N while the vehicle is in mo-
tion. You could otherwise dam-
age the automatic transmission.
Only shift briefly to N if:
ESP has been deactivated or
has malfunctioned and the
vehicle threatens to skid,
e.g. on slippery roads in win-
ter
you wish to shift the transfer
case

The automatic transmission
changes gear automatically. All
five forward gears are shifted
automatically. Use this selector
lever position for all normal driv-
ing situations.

One-touch gearshifting

When the automatic transmission is in se-
lector lever position D, you can also
change gear yourself.
Downshifting:
Press the selector lever briefly to the
left towards DÐ.
The automatic transmission shifts
down one gear, depending on the gear
currently engaged. Doing this also re-
stricts the shift range.
