screws could cause the magnet to come off dur-
ing engine operation and be thrown from the en-
gine causing severe injury. Replace the flywheel if
magnet is damaged.
REMOVE STATOR
1 . Remove the screws and stator.
REMOVE VALVES
1. Rotate the crankshaft until the piston is at top
dead center of compression stroke (both
valves closed and piston flush with top of
bore).
2.
Compress the valve springs with a valve spring
compressor and remove the keepers. Refer to
Figure
10-4.

Remove the valve spring compressor, then
remove the valves, intake valve spring lower
retainer, exhaust valve rotator, valve springs,
and valve spring upper retainers.
NOTE: Some models use a valve rotator on both
valves.
REMOVE OIL PAN
NOTE: Make sure the piston is at top dead center
in bore to prevent damage to oil dipper on con-
necting rod.
1 . Remove the hex cap sems screws, oil pan,
and gasket.

REMOVE CONNECTING ROD AND PISTON
1. Remove the connecting rod cap. Refer to
Figure
10-5.

NOTE: If a carbon ridge is present at top of bore,
use a ridge reamer tool to remove it before at-
tempting to remove piston.
2.
Carefully push the connecting rod and piston
out top of bore.
REMOVE PISTON FROM CONNECTING ROD
1 . Remove the retainer and wrist pin. Separate
the piston from the connecting rod. Refer to
Figure
10-6.

REMOVE PISTON RINGS
1 . Remove the top and center compression rings
and the oil control ring spacer using a ring ex-
pander tool. Refer to Figure 1
0-7.
2.
Remove the rails and expander spring (s).
