    Warning High voltages can enter your convertible notebook through both the power cord and the modem connection. To protect your convertible notebook and avoid electrical shock, use a surge protector. If you have a telephone modem, use a surge protector that has a modem jack. If you have a cable modem, use a surge protector that has an antenna/cable TV jack.

    If the air vents are blocked, the convertible notebook may become hot enough to harm your skin. Caution Provide adequate space around your convertible notebook so air vents are not obstructed. Do not use the convertible notebook on a bed, sofa, rug, or other similar surface.

Some keys perform specific actions when pressed alone and other actions when pressed in combination with another key.     • Unlike other touchscreens and PDAs, your convertible notebook’s display responds only to your convertible notebook’s pen. Your convertible notebook will not respond to a PDA stylus or the touch of a fingertip. • Steady your hand on the display surface while writing.

    Although you can use the pen to write on the screen when the convertible notebook is in notebook mode, for best results and maximum stability, only write on the screen while the convertible notebook is in tablet mode. To convert the display from notebook mode to tablet mode: Open the LCD panel to the normal viewing position.

    Slide the power button lock into the locked position to prevent the convertible notebook from being accidently turned off. Warning Radio frequency wireless communication can interfere with equipment on commercial aircraft.     Using a CD or DVD Manual eject hole Eject button Important DVD discs and drives contain regional codes that help control DVD title exports and help reduce illegal disc distribution. To be able to play a DVD, the disc’s regional code and your DVD drive’s regional code must match.

    Using the memory card reader You can use memory cards to transfer pictures from a digital camera to your convertible notebook. You can also use the memory card reader to transfer data between your convertible notebook and a device that uses memory cards, such as a PDA, MP3 player, or cellular telephone.

    Pull the memory card out of the convertible notebook. Adding and removing a PC Card Your convertible notebook has a PC Card slot (also known as a PCMCIA card slot). This slot accepts one Type II card. You do not need to restart your convertible notebook when changing most cards because your convertible notebook supports hot-swapping.

    • Close the LCD panel to turn off the display while you are not using your convertible notebook. The display stays off until you open the panel again. • Use Hibernate mode for maximum power savings while your convertible notebook is not in use.
