Adjusting and Resetting the Printer

Platen Gap Adjustment

If the CR guide shaft has been removed, or if the parallelism adjustment bushing has been rotated, you must
perform the platen gap adjustment. Symptoms of a mis-adjusted platen gap include faint printing (if the gap is
too wide), or smudge marks appearing on the page (if the gap is too narrow). If any of these symptoms appear,
you must perform the platen gap adjustment.
1.
Remove the upper housing as described in Chapter 3, Disassembly and Assembly .
2.
Remove the printhead from the carriage assembly as described in Chapter 3.
3.
Using tweezers, remove the ribbon mask from the carriage assembly.
4.
Re-install the printhead on the carriage assembly.
5.
Set the paper adjustment lever to "0" (the second step position from the rear).
6.
Rotate the CR guide shaft so that the large countersunk hole on the left edge of the shaft faces upward.
