Unit Level Troubleshooting

When a problem occurs, you can identify the defective unit based on the symptoms. The table below lists
symptoms for certain problems. Once a problem is identified, refer to the flowchart that corresponds to the
problem.
Symptom
The printer does not operate
at power on.
Abnormal carriage operation.
Problem with printing during
self-test.
Printer does not feed paper
correctly.
Control panel operation is
abnormal.
Printer fails to print from PC.

Problem Description
LEDs do not light.
Carriage does not move.
When the printer is powered on, the carriage
moves away from home position after a
moment and stops.
When the printer is powered on, the carriage
returns to home position, but the printer fails to
enter the READY mode.
Self-test is not printed.
Abnormal printing.
Print quality is poor.
No paper is fed.
Paper feed is irregular.
Paper jam occurs.
No response to pressed buttons.
Abnormal indication on the control panel.
Self-test prints correctly, but data from the PC
does not print correctly.
Printer does not print.
Printer error message appears on screen.
