    Product Description Features The EPSON FX-880 and FX-1180 are small-footprint, 9-pin serial impact dot matrix printers. Except for their width, the two printers are exactly the same. The FX-1180 has a wider carriage unit and paper handling mechanism, and prints on wider paper than the FX-880.

    Default settings are special settings stored in the printer’s EEPROM which remain active even after turning off the printer. The FX-880 and FX-1180 both have two default setting modes. You can change different printer settings in each of these modes.

    Power Supply – Circuit Types The FX-1180 and FX-880 printers can be powered by any of three power supply boards: the C229 PSB board (120 V), the C229 PSE board (230 V), or the C229 PSH board (UPS). The output of these boards supplies the DC current necessary to drive the printer control circuits and the printer drive mechanism.

    Operating Principles Control Circuit The C229 MAIN board is the control circuit board for the FX-1180 and FX-880. The control circuit includes a TM96C141AF CPU that runs at 14.47 MHz, an E05B50 gate array that contains various memory management functions, a reset IC, EEPROM, etc. The table below shows the functions of the main board components.
