The configuration program

The configuration program
Your Gigaset WLAN Repeater comes supplied with factory settings that normally allow
it to be used as a Repeater without comprehensive adjustments being necessary. How-
ever, you still have to set up the connection to the Access Point whose range you want
to extend with the Gigaset WLAN Repeater. If you want to use your Gigaset WLAN
Repeater in a different mode (see page 6), then you will have to configure it.
You may also have to set the encryption procedure to use networks with encrypted wire-
less transmission.
You can use a browser-based configuration program that can be opened from a PC to
carry out the configuration and to monitor operations. Detailed information is provided
about the steps required. Necessary configuration steps are carried out automatically.
Please remember:
For initial configuration we suggest that you connect the Gigaset WLAN Repeater with
an Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port of the PC on which you wish to make the con-
figuration. The Ethernet card should also be set to "Obtain an IP address automati-
cally" (see Section "Assigning IP addresses automatically" on page 24).

Opening the configuration program

You can open the configuration program with an Internet browser. You can use the
browser that is installed on your PC as your standard browser. The procedure is the same
in all cases. However, you should heed the system requirements (see page 10).
The example for accessing the configuration program uses Microsoft Internet Explorer.
But you can just as well use Netscape Navigator or any other browser.
The configuration program is opened using an IP address (defined address in a network
for particular documents or applications). The default address is 192.168.2.254 with
subnet mask 255.255.255.0.
As described in Chapter "First Steps" on page 10, you have connected your Gigaset
WLAN Repeater and made any changes necessary to the Ethernet card's network con-
figuration (see Chapter "Integration in the network" on page 16). Your Gigaset WLAN
Repeater is connected to the power supply (the Power LED is illuminated), likewise the
WLAN LED. The LED for the local network illuminates if you have connected a device
directly using an Ethernet cable.
