Recording, timer recording and dubbing
Cannot record.
VIDEO Plus+ programming does

Discs make sounds as they rotate. This does not mean a malfunction.
≥You haven't inserted a disc or the inserted disc is not compatible. Insert a disc the unit
can record onto.
≥The disc is unformatted.
Format the disc so this unit can record on it.
≥The write protect tab on the cartridge is set to "PROTECT".
Use a ballpoint pen or similar to release the write protection.
≥Recording is not possible unless you set "Disc Protection" in "DISC INFORMATION" to
"Off".
≥HDD or the disc is full or nearly full.
Delete unneeded programmes or use another disc.
≥The material you are trying to record is copy-guarded.
≥Tried to record to a DVD-R that has already been finalized.
≥Timer recording will not be activated when in editing or dubbing. Timer recording will
begin after the editing/dubbing is finished.
≥If you repeat recording or editing 200 times or more, the remaining capacity of the DVD-R
is reduced and then the recording or editing may be disabled.
≥The clock is wrong.
Go to "Settings" in the "SETUP" menus and correct the clock with "Clock".
≥The timer programme is incorrect.
Correct the programme and check them when you are finished.
≥The unit is not on standby for timer recording. ("
≥Different timer programme times overlap.

≥Timer recording will not be activated during formatting, dubbing, editing of still pictures
and other such operations which are not suitable for interruption when they are being
carried out.

Use a disc that has enough space to record the programme.
≥The programme remains if you select weekly or daily setting.
≥The available recording time does not increase if you erase data written by the DVD-RAM
drive of a computer.
Format the disc if necessary.
≥If the disc is dirty, wipe with the DVD-RAM/PD lens cleaner (optional) before formatting.
≥Available recording space on the DVD-R does not increase even after erasing previously
recorded programming.
≥If the power breaks down or the plug is disconnected from the household AC outlet while
recording or editing, the programme may be lost or the disc may become unusable.

format the HDD/disc or use a new disc.
≥It takes more time to dub many files or files including LPCM than usual.
≥The disc is not compatible with high speed recording.
≥"DVD-R Rec for High Speed mode" is not set to "On".
≥Dubbing to DVD-R in High Speed mode is possible only when the DVD-R is compatible
with dubbing in high speed.
≥When recording to DVD-R or dubbing in High Speed mode, the birl of the disc may be
louder than usual.
≥When the programme is recorded in EP mode, and it is dubbed in High Speed mode on
DVD-R which is compatible with high speed recording, the dubbing speed is 24 times
faster than usual (e.g. When the recording is 6 hours long, it is dubbed in 15 minutes.).
≥The memory card format is not valid with the unit.
)Format using FAT 12 or FAT 16 with other equipment or format the memory card with this unit.
(Mobile hard disk is also FAT 32 compatible.)
≥The unit tried to display still picture files that were in a folder level that is not valid.
≥The still picture file is not JPEG or TIFF.
)This unit displays still pictures (JPEG and TIFF) that comply with DCF standard.
≥Turn off and then turn on the unit again.
≥When there are a lot of folders and files, it may sometimes take a few hours.
≥When repeating copying or erasing, it may sometimes take a long time. Format the disc or memory
card.
≥The tray cannot be opened or closed while playing back the still pictures or displaying the editing
screen. Press [RETURN] for a while to clear the screen.
≥Make sure the PC card has been slotted home firmly before attempting to remove.
≥If it comes to the time scheduled for timer recording, the recording may start even though you are
editing.
