Problems with fax machine
General
Problem
I cannot make and receive calls.
The unit does not work.
The unit does not ring.
The other party complains they only
hear a fax tone and cannot talk.
The (REDIAL/PAUSE) button does
not function properly.
The receive mode does not function
as explained on page 54.
During programming, I cannot enter
a code or ID number.

Fax - sending

Problem
I cannot send documents.
The other party complains that
letters on their received documents
are distorted.
The other party complains that white
lines or black lines appear on their
received documents.
I cannot make an international fax
call.

≥The power cord or telephone line cord is not connected. Check the
connections (p. 26).
≥Disconnect the unit from the telephone line and connect the line to
a known working telephone. If the working telephone operates
properly, contact our service personnel to have the unit repaired.
If the working telephone does not operate properly, contact your
telephone company.
≥The ringer volume is set to off. Adjust it to a suitable level (p. 31).
≥The FAX ONLY mode is set. Tell them the number is only used for
faxes or change to another mode (p. 54, 55).
≥If this button is pressed during dialling, a pause will be inserted. If
pressed immediately after a dial tone is obtained, the last number
dialled will be redialled.
≥The TEL/FAX mode is set (p. 60–63).
≥All or part of the numbers are the same. Change the number
(p. 59).
≥The other party's fax machine is busy or has run out of paper. Try
again.
≥The other party's machine is not a facsimile. Check with the other
party.
≥The other party's fax machine rings too many times. Send the fax
manually - dial the number, confirm the fax tone, and press
(START/SET/COPY).
≥If your line has special telephone services such as call waiting, the
service may have been activated during fax transmission. Connect
the unit to a line that does not have these services.
≥The extension telephone on the same line is off the hook. Hang up
the extension telephone and try again.
≥The white roller is dirty. Clean it (p. 112).
≥Use the overseas transmission mode (p. 52).
≥Add two pauses at the end of the telephone number (p. 33) or dial
manually.
