Connections to a Building's Electrical System

Your generator can supply power to a building's electrical system. If
the generator will be used as an alternative to utility company power,
an isolation switch must be installed to disconnect the utility lines
from the building when the generator is connected. Installation must
be performed by a qualified electrician and must comply with all
applicable laws and electrical codes.
In some areas, generators are required by law to be registered with
local utility companies. Check local regulations for proper registration
and use procedures.

System Ground

Honda EB5000i/EB7000i generators have a system ground that
connects generator frame components to the ground terminals at the
AC output receptacles. The system ground is connected to the AC
neutral wire.
40
Improper connections to a building's
electrical system can allow current
from the generator to backfeed into
the utility lines.
Such backfeed may electrocute
utility company workers or others
who contact the lines during a
power outage, and the generator
may explode, burn, or cause fires
when utility power is restored.
Consult the utility company or a
qualified electrician prior to making
any power connections.
