Getting Started
A. Design & Installation Considerations
Heat & Glo direct vent gas appliances are designed to oper-
ate with all combustion air drawn from outside of the building
and all exhaust gases expelled to the outside. No additional
air source is required.
CAUTION
Check building codes prior to installation.
• Installation MUST comply with local, regional, state
and national codes and regulations.
• Consult local building, fi re offi cials or authorities having
jurisdiction about restrictions, installation inspection,
and permits.
When planning an installation, it is necessary to determine
the following information before installing.
Where the appliance is to be installed.
The vent system confi guration to be used.
Gas supply piping.
Electrical wiring.
Whether optional accessories - devices such as a
blower, thermostat or remote control - are desired.
Young children should be carefully supervised when
they are in the same room as the appliance. Tod-
dlers, young children and others may be susceptible
to accidental contact burns. A physical barrier is rec-
ommended if there are at risk individuals in the house.
To restrict access to an appliance, install an adjustable
safety gate to keep toddlers, young children and other
at risk individuals out of the room and away from hot
surfaces.
B. Tools and Supplies Needed
Before beginning the installation be sure that the following
tools and building supplies are available. Note: Not all
tools will apply to every installation.

Hammer
Gloves
Framing Square
Voltmeter
Phillips Screwdriver
Plumb Line
Electric Drill / Bits
Level
Flat Blade Screwdriver
Manometer
Safety Glasses
Allen Wrench Set Wrenches
Tape Measure
Ratchets / Sockets
1/2 - 3/4 in. Length, #6 or #8 Self-Drilling Screws
Non-corrosive Leak Check Solution or Combustible Gas
Detector
Caulking material (300º F minimum continuous exposure
rating)

C. Inspect Appliance & Components

WARNING
Inspect appliance and components for
damage. Damaged parts may impair safe
operation.
• Do NOT install damaged components.
• Do NOT install incomplete components.
• Do NOT install substitute components.
Report damaged parts to dealer.
Carefully remove the appliance and components from
the packaging.
Remove door and set aside on protective surface.
Remove log set and component pack from fi rebox.
Report to your dealer any parts damaged in shipment,
particularly the condition of the glass.
Read all of the instructions before starting the
installation.
Follow these instructions carefully
during the installation to ensure safety and benefi t.

responsibility for, and the warranty will be
voided by, the following actions:
• Installation and use of any damaged appliance or vent
system component.
• Modifi cation of the appliance or vent system.
• Installation other than as instructed by Hearth & Home
Technologies.
• Improper positioning of the gas logs or the glass door.
• Installation and/or use of any component part not approved
by Hearth & Home Technologies.
Any such action may cause a fi re hazard.
WARNING
Keep appliance dry.
• Mold or rust may cause odors.
• Water may damage controls.
