Change the number of rings before pickup

By default, your answering machine picks up calls
after the sixth ring. You can set it to pick up after
three, four, five or six rings.
If you anticipate retrieving your messages remotely
from long-distance locations, consider setting the
number of rings before pickup to Toll Saver. With
Toll Saver activated, the machine picks up after
six rings. But if new messages are waiting, it picks
up after four rings. Knowing that there are no new
messages, you can hang up after the fifth ring to
reduce charges.
If you use the answering machine together with
voicemail and call waiting service, you must set the
number of rings before pickup to be less than the
number of rings before pickup for voicemail service.
Voicemail pickup is determined by your service
provider. For more information, see
page
63.
