Safety

3.1

Warnings

When conducting installation and maintenance work,
observe the general safety instructions and the warning
notes which appear before each of the actions.
3.1.1

Classification of warnings

The warning notes are classified in accordance with the
severity of the possible danger using the following warn-
ing signs and signal words:

Structure of warnings

Warning signs are identified by an upper and lower sepa-
rating line and are laid out according to the following
basic principle:

Intended use

The Vaillant ecoTEC boiler has been constructed using
state-of-the-art technology in accordance with recog-
nised safety regulations. Nevertheless, there is still a risk
of injury or death to the operator or other persons or of

damage to the unit and other property in the event of
improper use or use for which it is not intended.
The Vaillant ecoTEC exclusive units mentioned in these
instructions may only be installed and operated in con-
junction with the accessories listed in the associated air/
flue gas duct installation manual (see section "Other
applicable documents").
This unit is not intended for use by persons (including
children) with physical, sensory or mental impairments
or who have inadequate experience and/or knowledge,
unless they are supervised by a person responsible for
their safety or have been given instructions by this per-
son regarding the operation of the appliance.
Children must be supervised to ensure they do not play
with the unit.
The unit is intended as a heat generator for closed hot-
water central heating installations in households.
The use of the ecoTEC exclusive in vehicles is not
classed as intended use. Units that are not classed as
vehicles are those that are installed in a fixed and per-
manent location (known as "fixed installation").
Any other use, or use beyond that specified, shall be
considered improper use. Any direct commercial or
industrial use is also deemed to be improper. The manu-
facturer/supplier is not liable for any damage resulting
from improper use. The user alone bears the risk.
Intended use also includes observance of the operating
and installation manual and the inspection/maintenance
conditions.
Improper use of any kind is prohibited.
3.3

General safety instructions

Always observe the following safety instructions and
regulations.
European installation directive
Installation and adjustment of the boiler as well as serv-
ice, maintenance and repair may only be carried out by
a competent person approved at the time by the Health
and Safety executive and in accordance with the gas
safety (installation and use) regulations 1998.
This person is also responsible for inspection, mainte-
nance and repairs to the unit, as well as alterations to
the gas volume setting.
The unit may only be operated with the front cladding
closed and with a fully fitted and closed air flue gas sys-
tem in the following cases:
– for start-up,
– for test purposes,
– for continuous operation.
Otherwise, under unfavourable operating conditions,
there is a risk of injury, death or material damage.
