Request To Speak Operation

Managing Request to Speak

At any point, you can choose Manage RTS to manage the Request to Speak system. The Request
to Speak modes are available in the upper left hand corner of the screen. See Request to Speak
(RTS) Preferences section on page 9 for more details on request to speak modes or the options on
the RTS Config page.
Once you have chosen an operating mode, you can begin to administer the request to speak system.
If you have chosen Open or Disabled mode, then no administration is needed. In Open mode,
page 9, each member can turn their microphone on or off using the Request to Speak and Cancel
Request buttons.
In Operator or Automatic mode, page 9, you can control who is speaking. Each time a member
requests to speak using the Request to Speak button, their name is placed in the Request To
Speak Queue along with their seat number. To manually place a member in the queue:
1. Select their name from the member list on the right hand side of the screen.
2. Select the Add Station to Queue button.
You can use the Promote Next button to promote the next member from the queue to the current
speaker. You can also choose a member directly from this list and promote them to the current
speaker position using the Promote Selected button. Any time you promote a member to the
current speaker position, the current speaker, if any, is demoted and their microphone turned off.
When the RTS system is operating in the Automatic mode, the first member in the request to speak
queue is automatically promoted to the current speaker position. If the queue is empty and a request
is made while in automatic mode, the member making the request is automatically prompted to the
current speaker. You can still use the Promote Next and Promoted Selected buttons while the
system is in Automatic mode.
When a member is promoted to the current speaker, the member's microphone turns on, and the
speaker timer starts counting down from its initial value to 0:00. When the speaker timer reaches
the warning time, the speaker timer value flashes between red and white indicating the time expires
soon. When the speaker timer reaches 0:00, the current speaker is only demoted if the Close Mic
on Timer Expire, page 9, option is selected.
For fully automatic request to speak operation, make sure to select Automatic mode
and the Close Mic on Timer Expire options.
