In Automatic mode, the system operates very similar to the Operator mode. However, when
a member is demoted from the current speaker position, either manually or automatically,
the next member is automatically promoted to the current speaker.
In Operator mode, each member can make a request to speak by pressing their Request
to Speak button, and their requested is placed into a queue. This queue is visible on the
operators panel. After pressing the Request to Speak button, you can then choose a
member in the queue to be promoted to the current speaker. When a member becomes the
current speaker, their microphone is turned on. You can choose to select any member from
the queue to be promoted to the current speaker. Whenever a new speaker is prompted,
the member currently in the current speaker position is demoted from that position, and
their microphone is turned off. In this mode, only one microphone is active at a time unless
multiple microphones are manually enabled from the operator's console. Also, the current
speaker's name and title are displayed to each voting station.
In Open mode, members are allowed to control their microphone directly. Member can use
their Request to Speak button to toggle their microphone ON and OFF.
This option enables the priority hold mode. Normally when a member's
microphone is overridden using priority, the speaker timer continues to count
down. This option causes the speaker timer to stop counting down while the
priority speaker is active. The speaker timer resumes counting down when the
member with priority releases control.
Normally, the speaker timer will not turn off a member's microphone while they
are speaking. You need to demote the member from the current speaker's
position manually to turn off the microphone. This option causes the current
speaker to be demoted when the speaker time reaches 0:00. This option
combined with Automatic mode allows the request to speak system to operate
entirely automatically.
This option allows a member to cancel a request they have previously placed in
the request to speak queue. If this option is not enabled, members are not able
to remove their requests from the queue.
This option allows the public speaking position, if present, to participate in
discussions. The public speaking position is usually a podium where people
not included in the voting body can speak on a topic.
