Preferences (Administrator Account Only)

The Preferences option appears on the main page only if you are logged in as an administrator. This
is to prevent inadvertent access and corruption of any accounts in the Administrator program. If you
are logged in as an administrator, your rights include creating and modifying user accounts. There
is also an option on this page to enable or disable context-sensitive messages based on cursor
position.

Administering user accounts

As an administrator, you are responsible for establishing user accounts for the program. The
process of creating or modifying existing user accounts is very easy. All you do is enter their name,
password, and save the new account information.
Windows NT
1. Click Preferences on the main page.
2. Click User Setup to open the User Setup page.
3. Go to step 4 to create a user account, step 5 to modify an account, and step 6 to delete an
account.
4. Click Create User to open the User Administrator page and enter the new account name in the
User Name field. Then, enter the user's password in the Password and Verify Password fields.
Click Save to store the new account information.
Repeat this step to add additional accounts. Otherwise, go to step 7.
5. Click the target account you want to modify in the Current Users drop-down menu. Then, click
Modify User to open the User Administrator page. Modify the username and/or password as
required. Enter the new password in the Verify Password field, too. Click Save to store the
account information.
Repeat this step to modify additional accounts. Otherwise, go to step 7.
6. Click the target account name to delete in the Current Users drop-down menu. Then, click
Delete and OK in the confirmation dialog box to delete the account.
Repeat this step to delete additional accounts. Otherwise, go to the next step.
7. Click Back to Main.
Windows 2000
1. Open Windows Explorer and open the c:/Inetpub/wwwroot/Weblinx.folder.
2. Right click on WebLinx and select properties.
3. Click on the Security tab and give full control to the guest group. Security settings can only be
set if you have OS Administrator privileges.
4. Click Back to Main.
Ensure that the WebLinx directory (and all files/subdirectories) have sufficient
permissions for the Guests group. Otherwise, you will not be allowed to create new
users.
