Paper

This chapter describes the types and characteristics of the
paper you can use in your printer.

Types

G
Plain paper
Best results are obtained using good quality plain office
paper with a weight between 15.5 and 24 lbs. Using 21 lbs
paper, you can load up to 40 single sheets in the ASF. If
you use thicker paper (over 24 lbs), the ASF capacity is
reduced to 20 sheets.
G
Special printing media
When you require top professional printing quality, e.g. for
presentation documents in color and for all types of
illustrations (photograph reproductions, drawings and
graphics), you should always use media specifically
indicated for ink jet printers.
Best results are obtained with 24 to 28 lbs paper. You
should use recommended media types (see Appendix A -
Supplies) and ask your dealer if you require further
information.
The printer acccepts the following types of special media:
Coated paper
This type of paper has a very smooth finish on the side
to be used for printing.
Paper
You can insert up to 10 sheets at a time in the
ASF. However, in marginal environmental
conditions, you may find it necessary to insert
them one at a time.
Glossy paper
This type of paper has a sophisticated glossy coating, and
is similar to that used used in the photographic industry.
You must insert the sheets one at a time with a single
sheet of plain paper as a backing.
Transparencies
Always use those specifically indicated for ink jet
printers; they are designed to absorb the ink correctly.
You must insert the transparencies one at a time with a
single sheet of plain paper as a backing.
When inserting the sheets for printing, make sure that
the printing surface is facing the correct way (see the
instructions on the paper packaging or container).
The drying time for the ink on the special printing media
is somewhat longer than for plain paper. Always remove
the printed page as soon as it exits from the printer and
set it aside to dry thorougly before handling it. Do NOT
stack such pages.
G
Envelopes
Best results are obtained using quality bond envelopes with
a weight between 18 and 25 lbs. You can insert up to 5
envelopes at a time in the ASF. Depending on the weight,
type and condition, you may obtain better results inserting
them one at a time.
As envelopes are fed vertically, remember to select a
Landscape font for printing.
