Do not use the cooktop if the glass is
brokenor if metal meltson to it. Call an
authorized servicer. Do not attempt to
repair it yourself.

surface.For mostefficientcooking,fit the pan
size to the elementsize.
Pansshould not extend more than I/2to I.
inch beyond the cooking area.

HOTSURFACE LIGHT
TheHotSurface IndicatorLightislocated at the
front center of the cooktop.The light will be
illuminatedwhen any cook-
ing area is hot. It will
remain on, even
afterthe controlis

turned off, until the
area hascooled.
DUALELEMENT
(select models)
Select glass-ceramicsurfaces are equipped
with a dual elementlocated in the right front
position.
To operate, press the rocker switch on the
control panel to the left to control the small
elementor to the rightto con-

COOKWARE
Toachieveoptimum cooking performance, u se
heavy-gauge, f iat, smooth bottom pans that
conformto the diameterof the cookingarea.

GLASS-CERAMIC SURFACE

Cooktopmayemit lightsmokeand odorthe first few timesthe cooktopis used. This is
normal.

Whena controlis turnedon, a red glowcan be seenthroughthe glass-ceramic surface.
The elementwill cycleon and off to maintainthe presetheatsetting.

Glass-ceramic cooktops retainheatfora periodof timeaftertheunitisturnedoff. Turnthe
elementoff a few minutesbeforefoodis completely cookedand usethe retainedheatto
completethecooking.Whenthe HOT SURFACE lightturns oft (seebelow),thecooking
area willbe coolenoughto touch.
Becauseofthe heatretention characteristics, theelementswill notrespondto changesin
settingsasquicklyascoilelements.In theeventof a potentialboilover, remove thepan
from the cooking area.

TIPSTO PROTECT THE
GLASS-CERAMIC SURFACE
> Beforefirst use, cleanthe cooktop.(See
Cleaning,page t3.)
>- Donot useglasspans.They may scratch
the surface.
Do not allow plastic,sugar or foods with
high sugar content to melt onto the hot
cooktop.Shouldthishappen,cleanimme-
diately.(SeeCleaning,page 13.)
> Neverleta pan boildry asthiswi!ldamage
the surfaceand pan.
:_ Never use cooktopas a work surfaceor
cuttingboard.Nevercook fooddirectlyon
the surface.
Never placea trivet or wok ring between
the surface and pan. These items can
markor etchthe top,
> Do not slidealuminumpans acrossa hot
surface.Thepansmayleavemarkswhich
needtobe removed promptly. ( SeeClean-
ing, page 13.)
Makesurethesurfaceandthepan bottom
are clean before turning on to prevent
scratches.
> To prevent scratchingor damageto the
glass-ceramic top,do notleavesugar,salt
or fats on the cooking area. Wipe the
cooktopsurfacewitha cleanclothor paper
towelbeforeusing.
Neverusea soileddishclothor spongeto
cleanthe cooktopsurface.A fitmwill re-
mainwhichmaycausestainson thecook-
ing surfaceafterthe area is heated.
> Donotusea smallpanona largeelement.
Not onlydoesthis wasteenergy,butit can
also result in spiIIoversburning onto the
cookingarea which requiresextra clean-
ing.
> Do notusenon-flatspecialty itemsthatare
oversized or unevensuchas roundbottom
woks,rippled bottomand/oroversized can-
ners and griddles.
> Do not slideheavymetal pansacrossthe
surfacesince these mayscratch.
> Do not usefoil or foil-typecontainers. F oil
maymelt ontotheglass.If metalmeltson
thecooktop,donotuse.Callanauthorized
servicer.
> Ifa spilloveroccurswhilecooking,immedi-
ately cleanthe spillfrom the cookingarea
whileit is hot to preventa toughcleaning
chorelater.Usingextremecare,wipespill
with a cleandrytowel.
>- Donotallowspillstoremainonthecooking
areaor thecooktoptrimfora longperiodof
time.
> Do notuseabrasivecleansing powdersor
scouring pads which will scratch the
cooktop.
:_ Do not use chlorinebleach,ammoniaor
other cleansers not specifically recom-
mendedfor useon glass-ceramic.
To retain the appearanceof the glass-
ceramiccooktop,cleanaftereach use.
