TROUBLESHOOTING

When one of the fax functions does not operate correctly, check the problem in the following table.
Problem
Does not operate.
Dialing is not possible.
Transmission is not
possible.
The transmitted fax is
blank.
The transmitted image
is very distorted.
The paper does not
come out.
The received fax is
blank.
The receiving image is
faint.

Does the message
screen show an error
message?
Is the line type (dial type) setting correct?
Is the connection cord connected properly?
Is the power switch turned on?
Is the machine in Fax mode?
Does the receiving
machine have paper?
Is the receiving
machine G3
compatible?
Is the receiving
machine able to
receive?
Is the original within the range of transmittable
originals?
Was the original placed
with the correct face up
or down during
scanning?
If the receiving machine
uses thermal paper,
was the thermal paper
loaded backwards?
Did thunder disrupt line
conditions?
Were the resolution and
contrast settings
appropriate?
Did a paper misfeed
occur?
Is the paper tray empty? Add paper.
Is the tray open?
Was the original placed
with the wrong face up
or down in the sending
machine?
Are you using the specified paper?
Was a faint original
used for transmission?
Remove the error as
instructed by the
message.
Ask the operator of the
receiving machine.
The original should be
placed face up in the
SPF, and face down on
the platen glass.
Ask the operator of the
receiving machine.
Try sending the fax
again.
Remove the misfeed.
Close the tray.
Ask the operator of the
receiving machine.
Have the fax sent again
with an appropriate
contrast setting.
