Connecting an External
Telephone Answering Device (TAD)
Sequence
Youmightchoose to connectan additional a nswering system.When youhavean
external TAD onthestonetelephone line astheFAX/MFC, the TAD answers a ll
calls.TheFAS_MFC "listens"forfaxcalling(CNG) t ones. I fit hearsthem,the
FAX/MFC takesoverthecall and receives t hefax.If itdoesn'thearCNG tones, t he
FAX/MFC letstheTAD continueplayingyouroutgoingmessage soyourcallercan
leave youa voicemessage.
TheTAD mustanswer w ithin4 rings(therecommended s ettingis2 rings).The
FAX/MFC cannothearCNG tonesuntiltheTAD has answered t hecall,andwith4
ringsthereareonly8-10seconds ofCNG tonesleftfor thefax"handshake."
Makesureyoucarefully follow instructions i n thismanualforrecording your
outgoingmessage. Donotuse a "toll-saver" r ingsetting on theTAD.
