5 Monitoring

Introduction

The FCArray Assistant Server provides monitoring of the activity and
performance of all devices and controllers attached to a server. The FCArray
Assistant Client monitoring activities involve the following:
Monitoring events (messages) sent by various servers to the client
workstation(s)
Monitoring controller activity; reviewing controller configuration and
other information
Reviewing physical device and logical drive information
Monitoring the historical performance data (Statistics View)
Viewing Error Table information and Request Sense Data

Event Monitoring

FCArray Assistant Server monitors identified activities and when one of these
activities occurs, it is reported as an "event." The event is recorded and sent as a
message, to selected workstations running FCArray Assistant Client, displaying
its status. The identified activity, resulting in an "event," could be as severe as a
hard disk failure, or informational, such as assignment of a drive to hot spare
status.
FCArray Assistant Client displays events in the Log Information Viewer. An
event can be any of the following:
Server attaches and detaches (Guest, User, and Administrator)
Error or warning condition in a RAID subsystem (such as a power, fan, or
drive failure)
Any administrative activity (taking a drive off-line, killing or rebuilding a
drive)
NOTE
HP recommends keeping FCArray Assistant Client active
continuously as a minimized Windows application.
