Data Protector Express can seem complex to first time users. The Quick Access application addresses that
complexity by providing simplified access to the primary features of Data Protector Express. You can use
it to access the most commonly-used wizards, a list of currently defined jobs, job logs and job status,
pending alerts, and service connection status.
The interface to the application consists of a system tray icon that you can mouse over to display status
information or click to display a menu. This type of design is becoming a common metaphor for many
applications. This interface allows for constant monitoring of Data Protector Express and job status
without taking up as much space as the Data Protector Express Administrator.

Installing and running the Quick Access application

The Quick Access application is automatically installed when you select the Quick or Recommended
installation. It is selected by default in a Custom installation. For more information, see the Installation
Guide.
After installation, the icon is displayed in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen.
For the Quick Access application to access Data Protector Express information, the Data Protector
Express service must be running.

Viewing Data Protector Express status

The appearance of the Quick Access icon changes to indicate the state of Data Protector Express, thus
providing continuous feedback. Two or more states can occur at the same time, such as a job in progress
and a pending alert. The icon can indicate only one state at a time, so it follows this order of precedence
in which items earlier in the list take precedence over items later in the list:
