Overview
Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine, WMSDE, is a special version of MSDE designed for use by
Windows Server Components. Various Windows components including Windows SharePoint Services
v2.0 (WSS) and Windows Server Update Services v2.0 (WSUS) leverage Microsoft SQL WMSDE
editions. Newer versions of WSS (v3.0) and WSUS (v3.0) leverage SQL Server 2005 Embedded Edition
(SSEE). In the event that a non Windows application is using one of the aforementioned databases that
instance will be displayed under the standard SQL agent and can be protected using the Data Protector
Express SQL Agent.
The Windows Component SQL Database agent is provided free of charge, and designed to protect these
windows components by providing a means to backup and restore the WMSDE/SSEE instances, and
databases.
Installing the Data Protector Express Agent for Windows Component
SQL Databases
A Data Protector Express Windows Component SQL Database Agent is automatically installed and
loaded when Data Protector Express is deployed on a machine running a Windows component that uses
either WMSDE or SSEE SQL.
