WARNING: Opening or removing the NAS appliance cover when the system is on may expose you to a risk of
electric shock.
WARNING: This NAS appliance should only be opened by a certified Dell service technician as agreed to in your
service contract.
CAUTION: Many repairs may only be done by a certified service technician. You should only perform
troubleshooting and simple repairs as authorized in your product documentation, or as directed by the online or
telephone service and support team. Damage due to servicing that is not authorized by Dell is not covered by your
warranty. Read and follow the safety instructions that came with the product.
CAUTION: Do not operate the NAS appliance without the cover for a duration exceeding five minutes.

Opening The NAS Appliance

NOTE: It is recommended that you always use a static mat and static strap while working on components in the
interior of the system.
NOTE: This is a service only procedure.
1.
Press and release the power button on the back of each controller to power down the NAS appliance.
NOTE: The cache indicator flashes amber when cache is being transferred from memory to the hard drive and is
off when the transfer is complete.
NOTE: Ensure that transfer of cache from the controller to the disk is complete before opening the NAS appliance
cover.
2.
Disconnect the power cable(s) from the power source and both the power supply units.
3.
Using a Torx 8 screwdriver, remove the screws securing the cover to the NAS appliance chassis.
4.
Slide the top cover toward the front of the system to disengage it.
5.
Grasp the cover on both sides and carefully lift the cover away from the system.
