AIR CLEANER

Carefully read p. 55 (MAINTENANCE).
WARNING
Do not use gasoline or inflammable
solventsto wash the air cleaner, in order
to avoid fires or explosions.
Check the condition of the air cleaner and
clean it monthly or every 2,500 mi (4,000 km),
depending on the conditions in which
the vehicle is used.
If the vehicle is used on dusty or wet roads,
the cleaning operations and any replacement
should be carried out more frequently.
To clean the filtering element it is necessary
to remove the whole filter casing from
the vehicle.

REMOVAL
N
Position the motorcycle on the central
stand, see page 38 (POSITIONING THE
MOTORCYCLE ON THE STAND).
DANGER
To avoid burns, allow the engine to cool
down to ambient temperature before
proceeding with the operations described
below.

Unscrew and remove the three screws (1).
N
Unscrew and remove the two screws (2),
taking off the washers.
WARNING
Do not use excessive force in the removal. The
air box cover (3) stays connected to the hose (4).
N
Partially remove the air box cover (3).
N
Remove the container mesh (5).
N
Remove the filter element (6).

Check:
- filter element (6);
- air box seal (7);
replacing them if necessary.
CLEANING
Do not use petrol or inflammable solvents
for washing the filter element, to avoid the
risk of fires or explosions.
N Wash the filter element (5) with clean, non-
inflammable or low-volatility solvents and
allow them to dry thoroughly.
N Apply a special filter oil or a particularly
dense oil (SAE 80W - 90) to the entire
surface of the element, then wring it out
to get rid of the excess oil.
