Note: After replacing the system board, use the Maintenance Utility to bind the model type, serial number,
and Brand ID of the computer with the new system board. Refer to
solutions/HT506954
for instructions on how to do that. As an alternative, you also can use the Golden Key U1
tool for that purpose. Refer to
Important notices for handling the system board:
When handling the system board, read the following:
• Some components mounted on a system board are very sensitive. Improper handling of a system board
can cause damage to those components, and may cause a system malfunction.
• The system board has an accelerometer, which can be broken when several thousands of G-forces are
applied.
Note: Dropping a system board from a height of as little as 6 inches so that it falls flat on a hard bench
can subject the accelerometer to as much as 6000 G's of shock.
• Be careful not to drop the system board on a bench top that has a hard surface, such as metal, wood, or
composite.
• Avoid rough handling of any kind.
• At every point in the process, be sure not to drop or stack the system board.
• If you put a system board down, be sure to put it only on a padded surface such as an ESD mat or a
corrugated conductive surface.
• Avoid bending a system board and hard pushing to prevent cracking at each BGA (Ball Grid Array)
chipset.
Attention: The microprocessor

• "Thermal fan assembly" on page 71
• "Wireless WAN card (for selected models)" on page 75
• "M.2 solid-state drive" on page 73

• "I/O bracket" on page 78

Replace the system board

Follow the instructions to replace the system board.
Step 1.
Remove the system board as shown below.
