Playing back files of an
USB device
You can play back the following files
stored in an optional USB device by
connecting it to the unit.
– Audio files (MP3/WMA/AAC files)
– JPEG image files
– Video files (Xvid/MPEG4 video files)
When playback from a mobile phone,
you can select the internal memory or a
Memory Stick as a playback source
(page 69).
See "Compatible USB devices with this
system" (page 109) for a list of USB
devices that can be connected to this
system.
The audio formats that can be played back
by this system are MP3/WMA/AAC
files* only. However, the system cannot
play back WMA/AAC files on a DATA
CD/DVD.
* Files with copyright protection (Digital
Rights Management) cannot be played back
by this system.
Note on the maximum number of files
and folders on an USB device
This system cannot play back an USB
device in the following cases.
– When the number of files on a folder
exceeds 150.
– When the number of folders on an USB
device exceeds 200.
These numbers may vary depending on
the file structure and the folder structure.

Press FUNCTION +/– repeatedly
to select "USB" (or press
on the unit).

Connect an USB device to the
(USB) port.

device" (page 57).

To remove the USB device

Press x to stop playback.

Press "/1 to turn off the system.

Remove the USB device.
Notes on the USB device
• The system can play back the following files.
File
MP3 file
WMA file
AAC file
JPEG image file
Xvid video file
MPEG4 video file
The system will play back any data with the
extension above, even if it is not MP3/WMA/
AAC/JPEG/Xvid/MPEG4 format. Playing
this data may generate a loud noise which
could damage your speaker system.
• The system may not be able to play an audio
file, JPEG image file, or video file depending
on the file type.
• The following USB devices/situations can
increase the time it takes to start playback:
– an USB device transferred with a
complicated tree structure.
– when the audio files, JPEG image files, or
video files in another folder have just been
played back.
• Some USB devices cannot be played back on
the system depending on the file format.
• The system can play back to a depth of 8
folders only.
• When the USB device is inserted, the system
reads all the files on the USB device. If there
are many folders or files on the USB device, it
may take a long time to finish reading the
USB device.
• Do not connect the system and the USB
device through an USB hub.
USB
• With some connected USB devices, after an
operation is performed, there may be a delay
before it is performed by this system.
• Resume Play is canceled when you turn off
the system.
