Using the right fuel helps keep the environ -
men t clean and preven ts engine damage.
Fuel recommendation
The fuel recomme nded fo r your vehicle is un-
leaded premium grade gasoline . Audi recom-
mends using TOP TIER Dete rgent Gasoli ne
wit h a minim um oct ane rat ing of 91 AKI (9 5
RON ). For more inform at ion on TOP TIER De-
tergent Gasoline, please go t o t he off icial

The recommended gasoline octane rating for
your engine can also be f ound on a label locat-
ed on the inside of the f uel fi ller flap . This rat-
ing may be specified as AKI or RON.
Your veh icle may also be operate d using un-
leaded regular gasoline with a min imu m oc-
tane rating of 87 AKI/91 RON. However, using
87 AKI/ 9 1 RON octa ne f uel w ill sli ghtly re-
duce eng ine perfo rmance .
Use unleaded gasoline only. Unleaded gaso-
line is available th rougho ut t he USA, Canada,
and in most European countries . We recom-
mend that you do not ta ke your vehicle to
areas or countries where unleaded gasoline
may not be available.

Octane rating
Octane rating ind icat es a gasoli ne's ability to
resist engine damaging "kno ck" caused by
premature ign ition and detona t ion. Therefore,
buying the correct grade of gasoli ne is very
importa nt to hel p prevent possible engine
damage and a loss of engine performance.
Gasoline most commonly used in t he Unite d
States and Canada has the following octane

rat ings that can usually be found on the fi ll er
pump :
- Premium Grade: 9 1 - 96 AKI
- Regular Grade: 87 - 90 AKI
Explanation of the abbreviations:
AKI = Ant i Knock I ndex = (R+M)/2 = (RON
+MON)/2
RON= Research Oct ane Num ber
MON = Motor Octane Number.

Note
- Do not use any fue l w ith octane rat ings
lower than 87 AKI or 9 1 RON othe rwise
expensive engi ne damage w ill occur.
- Do not use leaded gasoli ne. The use of
leaded gasoline w ill severely damage
your vehicl e's catalytic converter and its
abi lity to control exhaust em issions.
Blended gasoline

Use of gasoline containing alcohol or
MTBE (methyl tertiary butyl ether)
You may use unleaded gasoline blen ded wit h
alcohol or MTBE (commonly referred to as
oxygenates) if the blende d mixture meets the
f oll ow ing criteria:
Blend of gasoline methanol (wood alcohol or
methyl alcohol)
- Anti -knock index must be 87 AKI or higher.
- Blend must contain no mor e than 3% meth-
anol.
- Blend must contain more t han 2% co-sol-
vents .
Blend of gasoline and ethanol (grain alcohol
or ethyl alcohol)
- Anti -knock index must be 87 AKI or higher.
- Blend must not conta in mo re tha n 10%
ethanol.
Blend of gasoline and MTBE
- Anti-knock index must be 87 AKI or high er. ..,.
