Miscellaneous equipment specification (MES) instructions
An IBM Elastic Storage System 3500 hardware change can be done by using the MES instructions.
ESS 3500 storage drives concurrent MES upgrade
An online IBM Elastic Storage System 3500 MES upgrade is supported for customers who want to
upgrade a 12-drive IBM Elastic Storage System 3500 to a 24-drive IBM Elastic Storage System 3500.
To upgrade the system, the NVMe drives with the same size as the existing 12 drives must be used. This
MES upgrade doubles the available storage capacity in the existing IBM Elastic Storage System 3500. For
this concurrent upgrade, it is suggested to complete this operation during a period of low workload stress.
Existing customer recovery group and file system data are preserved during the MES upgrade.
Supported upgrade path: 12 NVMe IBM Elastic Storage System 3500 > 24 NVMe IBM Elastic Storage
