Remote Control Functions
DVDor LDplayer,dependingon how the
remotehas been programmed.
Tuner Mode: Press this button when the
tuner is in useto selectbetweenautomatic
tuning and manualtuning.When the button is
pressedso that the AUTOIndicator []
goes
out, pressingthe Tuning Buttonsl_)lr_! will
movethe frequencyup or down in single-step
increments. W henthe FMband is in use,press-
ing this button when a station's signal is weak
will changeto monauralreception.(Seepage
28 for moreinformation.)
Direct Button: Press this buttonwhen
the tuner is in useto startthe sequence for
directentry of a station'sfrequency. A fter press-
ing the buttonsimply pressthe proper
Numeric Keys _
to selecta station.(See
page 28 for moreinformationon the tuner.)
Tuning Up/Down:Whenthe tuner is in
use,thesebuttonswill tune up or down through
the selected frequencyband.If the TunerMode
Button (_)i'_'_lhasbeenpressedsothat the
AUTOIndicator [] isilluminated, pressingand
holding either of the buttonsfor threeseconds
will causethe tunerto seekthe next stationwith
acceptable signalstrengthfor quality reception.
Whenthe AUTOIndicator []
is NOTillumi-
nated,pressingthesebuttonswill tune stations
in single-step increments. (Seepage28 for more
information.)
OSD Button: Press this buttonto activate
the On ScreenDisplay (OSD) systemusedto set
up or adjustthe AVR220's parameters.
Macro Buttons: Press thesebuttons
to storeor recalla "Macro", which is a
preprogrammed sequence of commands
storedinthe remote.(Seepage34 for more
informationon storing and recallingmacros.)
I_) Transport Controls:Thesebuttonsdo
not haveany functionsfor the AVR220, but
they may be programmed for the forward/
reverseplayoperationof a wide varietyof CD
or DVDplayers,andaudio or video cassette
recorders. ( Seepage 35 for moreinformation
on programmingthe TransportControl Punch-
Throughcapabilityof the remote.)

Skip Up/Down Button:Thisbutton has a
directfunction with the AVR220, but when
usedwith a compatiblyprogrammedCDor
DVDchangerthey will changethe disccurrently
being playedin the changer.
DiscSkip Button:Thisbutton has no
directfunction for the AVR220, but is often
usedwhen the remote isprogrammedto oper-
ate a CDor DVDchangerto changethe discsin
the changer. ( Seepage34 for moreinformation
on usingthe remotewith otherdevices.)
Preset Up/Down: Whenthe tuner is
in use,pressthese buttonsto scrollthrough the
stationsprogrammedinto the AVR220's mem-
ory.When somesourcedevices,suchas CD
players, V CRsand cassette decks,areselected
using the deviceInput Selectors I!_, these
buttons mayfunction as ChapterStepor Track
Advance.
Clear Button: Press t his buttonto clear
incorrect e ntrieswhenusingthe remoteto
directlyentera radiostation'sfrequency.
Memory Button:Press this buttonto
entera radiostationinto the AVR220'spreset
memory. O ncethe MEMORYIndicator []
flashes,you havefive secondsto entera preset
memorylocationusing the Numeric Keys

Delay/Prev Ch.: Press this button to
beginthe process for settingthe delaytimes
usedby the AVR220 when processing surround
sound.After pressingthis button,the delay
times are enteredby pressingthe Set Button
andthen usingthe A/v ButtonsI[_tli_I
to changethe setting. Press the Set Button
againto completethe process. ( Seepage
18 for moreinformation.)
• Button: Press t hisbuttonto change a
settingor selection when configuring manyof the
AVR220'ssettings.
Speaker Select: Pressthis button
to beginthe processof configuring the
AVR220's bassmanagementsystemfor use
with the type of speakersusedin your system.
Oncethe button has beenpressed,use the
A/V Buttons Ii_Ii_
to selectthe channel
you wish to set up. Pressthe Set Button
and then selectanother channelto configure.
When all adjustmentshavebeen completed,
pressthe Set Button _
twice to exit the
settings and return to normaloperation. (See
page 19 for more information.)
Spare Button:Thisbutton doesnot have
any function for the operationof the AVR220,
but it is availablefor usewhen programmed
with the codefrom another remote.(Seepage
33 for informationon programmingthe remote
with codesfor otherdevices.)
_Volume
Up/Down: Pressthesebuttonsto
raiseor lower the systemvolume.Seepage35
for moreinformationon programmingthe
VolumeControl Punch-Through capabilityof the
remote,which allowsyou to changethe AVR
220's volumewhile the remoteis set to control
another device.
TV/Video Selector:Thisbutton doesnot
havea directfunction on the AVR220, but
when usedwith a compatibly p rogrammed
VCR,DVDor satellite receiverthat hasa
"TV/Video"function,pressingthis button will
switch betweenthe output of the playeror
receiverandthe externalvideo input to that
player.Consultthe owner'smanualfor your
specificplayeror receiverfor the details of how
it implementsthis function.
SPLButton:Thisbutton activatesthe AVR
220's FzSet f unction to quicklyand accurately
calibratethe AVR220's output levels.Pressand
holdthe button for three seconds andthen
releaseit. Notethat the TestTonewill begincir-
culating, andthe Program/SPLIndicator I_
will changecolors.Duringthis sequence, E zSet
will automaticallyadjustthe output levelsfor
all channelsuntil they haveequal output levels,
as shown bythe Program/SPI. Indicator
lightinggreenfor eachchannel.Pressthis but-
ton againwhen the adjustmentis completeto
turn off the test tone. (Seepage 21 for more
informationon EzSet.)
6-Channel Direct Input: Press this but-
ton to selectthe component connected t o the
6-Channel Direct Input O asthe source.
Mute: Pressthis button to momentarily
silencethe AVR220 or TVset beingcontrolled,
dependingon which devicehasbeen selected.
Whenthe AVR220remoteis being programmed
to operateanotherdevice, t his button is pressed
with the Input Selector Button _
to begin
the programmingprocess. ( Seepage 33 for
moreinformationon programmingthe remote.)
EzSet S ensor Microphone: Thesensor
microphone for the FzSetmicrophone is behind
theseslots.Whenusingthe remoteto calibrate
speakeroutput levelsusingEzSet, b e surethat
you do not holdthe remotein a waythat cov-
ers theseslots.(Seepage 21 for moreinforma-
tion on using EzSet.)
