Using the Push Stick, Push Block, and
Auxiliary Fence
(Fig. 61, Fig. 67)
When feeding the workpiece for a rip cut, use
your hands only when they can be kept at least 6"
(152 mm) from the Blade 31. A Push Stick 8 or 95
or Push Block 96 should be used any time the cut
would cause your hands to be within 6" (152 mm)
of the Blade 31.
Apply the feed force to the section of the work
piece between the saw Blade 31 and the Rip Fence
9. Your other hand should be used only to guide
the workpiece when it is at least 6" (152 mm) from
the Blade 31.
When using a Push Stick 8 or 95 or Push Block
96, the trailing end of the board must be square.
A Push Stick 8 or 95 or Push Block 96 against an
uneven end could slip off or push the work away
from the Rip Fence 9.
When cutting a workpiece 1/8" (3.2 mm) or less,
use the Auxiliary Fence 97 mounted to the Rip
Fence 9.
When cutting a workpiece 3/16" (4.5 mm) thick or
more, use the Flip-Over Fence 17 mounted to the
Rip Fence 9.

Using the Push Stick
(Fig. 68, Fig. 69)
Never contact the spinning
saw Blade with the Push Stick.
Contacting the spinning saw Blade with the Push
Stick may result in personal injury or property dam-
age.
Only use the Push Stick 8 when the width of the
rip cut is 2" (50 mm) or greater. When width of rip
is less than 2" (50 mm) the Push Stick 8 cannot be

used because the Barrier Guard Assembly 26 will
interfere.
Always position the Push Stick 8 and apply feed
force parallel to the saw Blade. Make sure that the
Push Stick 8 is positioned so that the long sur-
face, A, is flat against the top of the workpiece and
the short surface, B, is fully engaged with the trail-
ing end of the workpiece. If a workpiece is shaped
such that the Push Stick 8 cannot be fully support-
ed in this manner, an appropriate push block or jig
should be used to support that workpiece.
Feed the workpiece by hand until the trailing end
is approximately 1" (25 mm) past the front edge of
the Table 13. Continue to feed the workpiece using
the Push Stick 8 until the cut is complete.
