followed by a symptom index chart that will sometimes
isolate your problem directly and, at other times, lead you
to strategic points in detailed problem determination
procedures. The problem determination strategy starts at
the attached devices and progresses toward the 3274
Control Unit.
How to Do Problem Determination
The person responsible for problem determination should
become familiar with the concepts and facilities described in
this manual and, once familiar with them, be able to use
Section 2 for problem determination when a problem occurs.
The problem determination procedures ask you specific
questions and instruct you to take certain actions and to
record the results on the 3274 Control Unit Problem Report
Form, GX23-0203. A sample of this form is given in Figure 2-2
on page 2-52. In some cases, the procedures tell you to perform
problem determination on one of the devices attached to your
3274 directly, or on devices attached to your 3274 via a 3299.
Be sure you have a copy of the problem determination guide
for each type of device attached to your 3274 Control Unit (see
"Related Publications" for publication order numbers).
