STEERING CONTROL LEVER
NEUTRAL ADJUSTMENT
(988153, 154, 155, 169)
Check Neutral
1. Move speed control levers fully forward.
2. Depress steering control levers and
engage latches.
3. Pull speed control levers back fully to
neutral position. Steering latch levers
should release. Verify that cross shaft
cams are in contact with steering control
rods.
4. If not, adjust neutral position as
necessary.
Adjust Neutral
See Figure 15.
NOTICE: Neutral adjustment must be
performed for both steering control levers.
1. Move speed control levers (A) fully
rearward to raise cross shaft cams (B).
2. Engage steering control latch levers.
3. Loosen jam nut (C) away from rod end
(D) on upper link rod (E).
4. On side of dash panel, remove hairpin
(F), bushing (G) and nylon flat washer
(H) from outer end of steering control
rod (I). Retain hardware.
5. Move steering control rod inward to free
it from slot in side of dash.
6. Remove and retain inner nylon flat
washer (J) and steel flat washer (K) from
steering control rod (I).
7. Slide control rod (I) out of upper link rod
end (D).
8. Rotate rod end as necessary to adjust
upper link length.
9. Slide link rod end (D) onto control rod (I).
10. Install steel flat washer (K) and nylon flat
washer (J) on control rod (I).
11. Temporarily install control rod through
slot in side of dash.
12. Check neutral position. Verify that cross
shaft cam (B) is in contact with steering
control rod (I). See Check Neutral on
page 26.
13. If further adjustment is necessary,
ensure speed control levers are fully
rearward and repeat steps 4 through 12.
14. Once adjustment is complete, install
nylon flat washer (H), bushing (G) and
hairpin (F) onto end of control rod (I).
15. Tighten jam nut (C) against rod end (D)
to secure length of upper link rod (E).
16. Repeat steps 3 through 15 for remaining
steering control lever.

CHECK NEUTRAL
1. Put speed control levers in neutral.
2. Engage latches to lock steering control
levers in neutral.
3. Engage parking brake.
4. Start engine.
5. Run engine at full throttle.
6. Disengage parking brake.
Check for creep.
7. Release steering control lever latches.
Check for creep.
If unit creeps when parking brake and
steering levers are released: Adjust steering
control rod length. See See ADJUSTING
PUMP NEUTRAL POSITION on page 27.
