• Before installing non-QNAP heatsinks, ensure that they are of the appropriate size and
shape.
1. Power off the device.
2. Disconnect the power cord from the electrical outlet.
3. Disconnect all cables and external attachments.
4. Remove the case cover.

5. Remove the fan module.

6. Prepare the M.2 SSD.
a. Remove the protective film from both sides of the thermal pad.
b. Install the thermal pad on the SSD controller.
c. Remove the protective film from the black rubber pad.
d. Turn the SSD over.
e. Install the rubber pads on the bottom of the SSD.
Note
The thermal and rubber pads work together to transfer heat from the SSD controller to the
cooling module.
7. Install a heatsink on the M.2 SSD.
a. Locate the controller on the M.2 SSD.
Note
The controller location varies depending on the model and manufacturer of the M.2 SSD.
For details, refer to the documentation or contact the manufacturer.
b. Remove the protective film from the heatsink.
c. Install the heatsink on the controller.
8. Install the M.2 SSD.
a. Unlock the M.2 spacer by pushing down on its edge.
b. Insert the M.2 SSD into the slot.
c. Carefully press the M.2 SSD down until the spacer locks the drive into place.
