Prerequisite
Before you start, read Generic Safety and Compliance Notices, and print the following instructions.
The heat sink and CPU might be very hot. Before you open the computer cover, turn off the computer and
wait several minutes until the computer is cool.
For access, remove these parts in order, if any:
• "Left side cover" on page 54
• "Secondary storage drive cage" on page 59
• "Secondary storage drive" on page 60
• "Storage drive in the front-access storage enclosure" on page 62
• "Front-access storage enclosure" on page 66
• "Heat-sink-and-fan assembly" on page 91
Notes:
• Touch only the edges of the CPU. Do not touch the gold contacts on the bottom.
• Do not drop anything onto the CPU socket while it is exposed. The socket pins must be kept as clean as
possible.
