The following points covers the main
actions to make the product ready for
operation.

(Figure F:1 - F:6)
To remove the outer shells:
Insert your fingers or a tool under the edge
of the outer shell clamp and pull out (F:1)

FITTING INSTRUCTIONS

Inspect the hearing protector before each
use. If damaged, select an undamaged
hearing protector or avoid the noisy
environment.
7.1. HEADBAND
(Figure E:1 - E:9)
E:1 Slide out the cups and tilt the top of the
shell out, as the cable must be on the
outside of the headband.
E:2 Adjust the height of the cups by sliding
them up or down while holding the
headband in place.
E:3 The headband should be positioned
across the top of the head as shown and
should support the weight of the headset.
For better fit for smaller sized heads use
HY450/1 as shown in (E:6 - E:9).

OPERATING
INSTRUCTIONS
8.1. SWITCHING THE HEADSET
ON AND OFF
Press and hold the On/Off button for two
seconds to switch the headset on or off. A tone
will confirm that the unit has been switched on
or off. The last setting is always saved when
the headset is switched off. The headset is
automatically powered off after two hours of
no active functions. This is indicated by tone
signals the last minute, then the headset
switches off.
8.2. VOLUME
The volume of the level-dependent function
for ambient listening is continuously adjustable
from min to max. It helps protect your hearing
from potentially harmful noise levels. Constant
rumbling and other potentially harmful noises
are reduced, and you can still speak normally
and make yourself heard. The amplification of
the ambient listening is toned down when an
external signal comes in through the external
input. Press and hold the (+) or (–) button to
increase or decrease the volume to preferred
setting.

PRODUCT LIFETIME

It is recommended that you replace your
product within 5 years from date of
manufacture. The lifetime of the product will
be highly dependent on the environment in
which the product is stored, used, serviced,
and maintained. The user must regularly
inspect the product to determine when it
has reached its end of life. Examples that
the product may have reached its end of life
are:
• Visible defects such as cracks,
deformations, loose or missing parts.
• Experience of a deterioration in the
hearing protector's attenuation
performance, strange noise or abnormal
high sound volumes from the product's
electronic sound reproduction.
NOTE: Product lifetime does not include
batteries.
10. CLEANING AND
MAINTENANCE
Carry out a visual battery condition check.
Replace if battery leakage or defects are
detected.
Use a cloth wetted with soap and warm
water to clean the outer shells, headband
and ear cushions.
NOTE: Do NOT immerse the hearing
protector in water.
If the hearing protector gets wet from rain or
sweat, turn the earmuffs outwards, remove
the ear cushions and foam liners, and allow
to dry before reassembly. The ear cushions
and foam liners may deteriorate with use
and should be examined at regular intervals
for cracking or other damage. When used
regularly, 3M recommends replacing the
foam liners and ear cushions at least twice
a year to maintain consistent attenuation,
hygiene, and comfort. If an ear cushion is
damaged, it should be replaced. See Spare
Parts Section below.
