Battery hedge trimmer

► Hold the hedge trimmer firmly with one hand
on the control handle and with the other hand
firmly on the loop handle depressing the
switch lever. While pushing the trigger switch
lockout downwards, squeeze the trigger switch
with your index finger.
The hedge trimmer should switch on. If it does
not, take the hedge trimmer to an authorized
STIHL servicing dealer to be repaired before
use.
► Release the trigger switch.
The hedge trimmer should switch off.
If the hedge trimmer does not switch off after
you release the trigger switch, remove the bat‐
tery and take the hedge trimmer to an author‐
ized STIHL servicing dealer to be repaired
before use.
Switch Lever (1)
WARNING
■ To reduce the risk of serious or fatal injuries,
keep hands, feet and other parts of the body
away from the cutting blades. Do not touch the
cutting blades while the battery is inserted.
Never touch moving cutting blades with your
hand or any part of your body,
bystanders out of the area while testing the
controls.
To test the switch lever:
► Insert the battery.
► Unlock the trigger switch lockout by pushing it
downwards with your thumb.
► Hold the trigger switch lockout in the unlocked
position.
► Depress the trigger switch lockout and the trig‐
ger switch only. Do not depress the switch
lever.
The cutting blades should not start moving. If
they do start moving, take the hedge trimmer
to an authorized STIHL servicing dealer to be
repaired before use.
► Next, hold the hedge trimmer firmly with both
hands, your fingers wrapped tightly around the
handles. Now switch on the hedge trimmer by
depressing the trigger switch lockout, trigger
switch and switch lever momentarily. The
blades should start moving. Then release the
trigger switch or switch lever. The blades
should stop moving.
If the cutting blades do not start when you
depress the trigger switch and switch lever, or if
they do not stop after you release the trigger
switch or switch lever, remove the battery and

take the hedge trimmer to an authorized STIHL
servicing dealer to be repaired before use.

17 During Operation

17.1
■ To reduce the risk of personal injury, never
work with the hedge trimmer in the rain or in
wet or damp conditions,
proper clothing and protective apparel, includ‐
ing proper eye protection,
fully and maintain proper control of the hedge
trimmer,
■ To avoid serious or fatal injury, avoid contact
with the moving cutting blades. Never hold the
material to be cut. Never remove cut material
without first releasing the trigger switch and
removing the battery. Release the trigger
switch and remove the battery before clearing
jammed material,
6.5.2. Keep
The hedge trimmer is designed for two-handed
operation.
► Before starting work with the hedge trimmer,
remove thick branches with a hand pruning
saw, loppers, chain saw or other appropriate
tool.
► Do not cut stems, branches or other vegeta‐
tion greater than 0.55 in. (14 mm) thick.
Cutting in a Vertical Plane
► Swing the cutting attachment from the bottom
of the hedge upwards in a controlled arc (see
illustration above).
► Lower the nose of the cutting attachment,
move along the hedge and swing the cutting
attachment up again in a controlled arc.
