3. Remove the four screws and fan guard from the
frame.
4. Remove the bolt, lock washer, flat washer, and
fan from the transmission sheave.
5. Apply enough pressure to the transmission idler
assembly to remove the transmission belt, first
from the idler pulley and then from the double
groove engine sheave.
6. Reverse steps to install the new transmission
belt. The belt tension spring should be set at a
length of 1.8 inches.
7. Install and tension the PTO clutch belt.
8. Check belt tension after 1 hour of use and every
50 hours thereafter.

CHECKING/CLEANING THE BATTERY
Checking the Battery Fluid
Check the battery fluid every 200 hours. Use caution
and wear eye protection when checking the battery. To
check the battery:
1. Remove the battery rod and cover. Clean the top
of the battery.
2. Lift the filler caps.

3. Add distilled water if the fluid level is below the
split rings in the filler tube. Do not fill above the
split ring. Do not use a metal funnel.
4. Reinstall the filler caps. Push them all the way
down.
5. Replace the cover and battery strap.
WARNING: Batteries produce explosive
gases which can cause personal injury. DO
NOT allow flames, sparks, or any ignited
object to come near battery. When charging or
working near a battery, always shield your
eyes. Always provide ventilation.
WARNING: Keep batteries out of reach of
children. Batteries contain sulfuric acid. Avoid
contact with skin, eyes or clothing. In case of
acid contact with skin, eyes or clothing, flush
immediately with water for a minimum of 15

minutes. If acid is swallowed, drink large
quantities of milk or egg or vegetable oil. Call
a physician immediately.

Cleaning Terminals
Keep battery and its terminals clean and inspect
monthly to be sure of obtaining best performance.

WARNING: DO NOT allow tools or other
objects to come into contact with both

terminals at the same time. When removing the
battery from the tractor, remove negative (-)
cable first to reduce risk of sparks.
1. Remove battery cables.

2. Loosen tie down rod nuts and remove battery.

3. Bring battery to a work area away from unit.
4. Remove corrosion from battery terminals and
cable connections with a wire brush.
5. Wash with a weak baking soda/water solution.
6. After cleaning apply a thin coat of grease or
petroleum jelly to terminal cable ends to
decelerate corrosion.
WARNING: When charging battery, remove it
from tractor and connect positive (+) lead of
charger to positive (+) terminal and negative
(-) lead to negative (-) terminal. Reversed
connections can cause sparks and potential
hazard.
CAUTION: Connect positive (+) cable first,
negative (-) ground cable last.
