Defrost cycle

The water heaters covered in this manual are equipped with a Defrost cycle to remove
frost and/or ice buildup on the evaporator coil. Factors such as air temperature, humidity,
air flow, and the condition of the heat pump system influence when and how often the
system will enter into a defrost cycle.
Noticing steam around the front of the water heater is a normal part of the defrost cycle as
it is functioning to melt the frost or ice accumulation on the evaporator coil.
