ADJUST SHIFT LEVER LINKAGE

See Figure 29.
IMPORTANT: If the shift lever and the
transmission detent are improperly aligned,
the transmission may fail prematurely. The
.030 (.8mm) clearance helps prevent
premature wear of the detent plate and shift
lever.
The trasnmission shift lever is attached to the
transmission shift arm with two 5/16"-18
bolts.

1. Stop engine, remove key and wait for all
moving parts to stop and for hot parts to
cool.
2. Push PTO switch down to the off position.
3. Move shift lever to the neutral position.
See Figure 30.
4. Loosen two 5/16"-18 bolts on the shift
lever.
5. Align the shift lever so it is centered in
gear position 2 on the detent plate and is
.8mm (.030") from the V. See Figure 30.
NOTICE: If the shift lever cannot be adjusted
properly with the shift lever hardware alone,
loosen the hardware holding the detent plate
to the frame and repeat step 5.
6. Tighten bolts.
NOTICE: Ensure shift lever engages all gear
positions before starting unit.

REPLACE TRANSMISSION BELT

CAUTION: Damaged or worn
belts may result in injury and / or
damage to the unit. Check belts
for excessive wear or cracks
often.
Remove Transmission Belt
See Figure 31.
1. Stop engine, remove key and wait for all
moving parts to stop and for hot parts to
cool.
2. Push PTO switch down to the off position.
3. Move shift lever to the neutral position.
4. Remove mower drive belt from clutch
sheave. See Remove Mower Drive Belt
on page 25.
5. Loosen idler pulley mounting bolt and
move pulley away from belt.
6. Loosen one and remove one engine
mounting bolt from clutch bracket. Turn
clutch stop away from mower clutch
sheave and retain mounting bolt for
reinstallation.
