NOTICE: Each blade spacer is 6 mm (1/4"). If
two or three spacers are removed, shorter
blade bolts must be used. The shorter blade
bolts for this application are mounted on top
of the deck in front of the spindles and retain
the HOC spacers when not in use.
CAUTION: Do not add or
remove blade spacers to change
cut heights if within the normal
deck cut height range. Blade
spacers are only removed to
achieve cutting heights greater
than 102 mm (4").
To gain additional cut height:
1. Set deck to maximum cut height. See
Set Cutting Height on page 14.
2. Remove blades. See Remove Blades on
page 20.
3. Remove or add spacers to achieve the
desired cutting height.
NOTICE: Store removed blade spacers on
hex bolts.

OPERATION

WARNING: AVOID INJURY.
Read and understand the Safety
section before proceeding.
IMPORTANT: All references to left, right, front
or rear are given from the perspective of
operator in operator's position, facing the
direction of forward travel.

EMERGENCY STOPPING

WARNING: AVOID INJURY.
Operating on slopes may lead to
loss of steering control. Be
prepared to react.
1. Release operator presence control(s).
2. Turn ignition key to off position and
remove key.
3. Lock steering levers in neutral.

START THE ENGINE

1. Lock the steering lever latches in neutral.
2. Move shift lever to the neutral position.
3. Push PTO switch down to the off position.
4. Move throttle control lever one-third of the
way toward full-throttle.
5. If engine is cold, pull choke knob up to the
on position. DO NOT use choke on a
warm engine.
6. Insert ignition key and turn it to the start
position.
7. Pull recoil starter handle.
8. Grasp handle and pull rope out slowly
until it pulls harder.
9. Pull handle firmly and quickly with a rapid,
continuous full-arm stroke. Repeat until
engine starts. If engine does not start, see
Troubleshooting on page 32.
10. Let handle rewind slowly after engine
starts.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT let starter handle
snap against engine.
11. Gradually move choke to the off position
as engine warms.
12. Lock steering levers in neutral.

OPERATE UNIT

Shift Unit
1. Hold steering levers against handlebar to
stop unit.
