PNP/PCI Configurations

This section describes configuring the PCI bus system and PnP (Plug &
Play) feature. PCI, or Peripheral Compon ent Interconnect, is a system which
allows I/O devices to operate at speeds nearing the speed the CPU itself uses
when communicating with its special components. This section covers some
very techn ical items and it is strongly recommended that o nly experien ced
users should make any changes to the default settings.
Reset Configuration Data
Normally , you leave this field Disabled. Select Enabl ed to reset Extend ed
System Configuration Data (ESCD) when you exit Setup if you have installed
a new add-on card and the system reconfiguration has caused such a serious
conflict t hat the operat ing sy stem cannot b oot. Setting option s: En abled,
Disabled.
Res ource Controlled By
The Award Plug and Play BIOS has the capacity to automat ically con figure
all of the boot and Plug and Play compatible devices. However, this capability
means absolutely nothing unless you are using a Plug and Play operating sys-
tem such as Windows
®
95/98. If you set this field to "manual" choose specific
reso urces by going into each of th e sub menu that follows this field (a sub
menu is preceded by a "Ø"). The settings are: Auto (ESCD), Manu al.

IRQ Resources
The items are adjustable only when Resources Controlled By is set to Manual.
Press <Enter> an d you will enter the sub-menu o f the items. IRQ Res ources
list IRQ 3/4/5/7/9/ 10/11/12/14/15 for users to set each IRQ a type depending
on the type of device using the IRQ. Settings are:
PCI Device
For Plug & Play compatible devices designed for PCI
bus architecture.
Reserved
The IRQ will b e reserved for fu rther req uest.
