Low Profile Types
1. Unsnap the air cleaner cover
clips, rem ove the air cleaner
cover, and rem ove the air
filter elem ent.
2. Wash the elem ent in a
solution of household
detergent and w arm w ater,
then rinse thoroughly, or
wash in nonflamm able or
high flashpoint solvent. Allow
the element to dry thoroughly.
3. Soak the air filter elem ent in
clean engine oil and squeeze
out the excess oil. The engine
will sm oke during initial
startup if too m uch oil is left
in the elem ent.
4. Reinstall the air filter elem ent
and the cover.

SEDIMENT CUP

Cleaning
Gasoline is highly flam m able and explosive, and you
can be burned or seriously injured w hen handling
fuel.
Stop engine and keep heat, sparks, and flam e aw ay.
Handle fuel only outdoors.
Wipe up spills im m ediately.
1. M ove the fuel valve to the OFF position, then rem ove the fuel
sedim ent cup and O-ring.
2. Wash the sedim ent cup and O-ring in nonflam m able solvent,
and dry them thoroughly.

3. Place the O-ring in the fuel valve, and install the sedim ent cup.
Tighten the sedim ent cup securely.

4. M ove the fuel valve to the ON position, and check for leaks.
Replace the O-ring if there is any leakage.

SPARK PLUG

Recommended Spark Plugs:
The recom m ended spark plug is the correct heat range for norm al
engine operating tem peratures.
An incorrect spark plug can cause engine damage.
For good perform ance, the spark plug m ust be properly gapped
and free of deposits.
1. Disconnect the spark plug cap,
and rem ove any dirt from
around the spark plug area.
2. Rem ove the spark plug w ith a
13/16-inch spark plug w rench.
3. Inspect the spark plug.
Replace it if dam aged, badly
fouled, if the sealing w asher
is in poor condition, or if the
electrode is w orn.
4. Measure the spark plug
electrode gap w ith a w ire-
type feeler gauge. Correct the
gap, if necessary, by carefully
bending the side electrode.
The gap should be:
0.70 0.80 m m (0.028 0.031 in)

5. Install the spark plug carefully,
by hand, to avoid cross-
threading.
6. After the spark plug is seated, tighten w ith a 13/16-inch spark
plug w rench to com press the sealing w asher.
7. When installing a new spark plug, tighten 1/2 turn after the spark
plug seats to com press the w asher.
8. When reinstalling the original spark plug, tighten 1/8 1/4 turn
after the spark plug seats to com press the w asher.
A loose spark plug can overheat and damage the engine.
Overtightening the spark plug can damage the threads in the
cylinder head.
9. Attach the spark plug cap to the spark plug.
