Shaft and Impeller Size

Flange-mounted and quick-clamp flange mounted
agitators need shafts and blades. See below
to determine the length of the shaft and the
recommended impeller diameter.

*Recommended impeller blade diameter is generally
determined by taking the inside dimension of the
tank, drum, or vessel (T in Figure 1) and multiplying
by 0.35.
**Speed is limited by material viscosity and
tank diameter for 12" (30 cm) impeller. See
Finding the Proper Agitator Speed, page 9
To determine the shaft length ("A" in Table 4):
1. Find the distance from the bottom of the tank up
1/2 the impeller diameter (i.e., 2", 4", or 6") (See
0.5 D in Figure 1 ).
2. From that point, measure to the lid mounting
surface (L).
3. Add measurement in step 2 (L) to the length of
the bearing housing (5" or 127 mm).
Example: Shaft length "A" = L + 5 inches (127 mm).
