Lower unit

Symptom: The forward and reverse gear shift mechanism does not operate
properly.
Check the shift lever operation.
Is it operating
correctly?
Yes
Check the shift rod connection.
Is it connected
properly and in
good condition?
Yes
Disassemble the lower case and
check the dog clutch operation.
Is it in good
operating
condition?
Yes
Check the dog clutch and
forward and reverse gears and
replace if necessary.

Check the shift lever shaft and
spring.
No
Connect correctly or replace the
shift rod as necessary.
No
Replace the spring and shift
plunger as necessary.
