Assembling the cylinder block

1. Install half of the bearings 1 into the
crankcase, then dowel pins 2.
2. Apply Gasket Maker
face of the crankcase.

NOTE:
Do not get any Gasket Maker
bearings.
3. Install the crankcase bolts, and then
tighten them to the specified torques in
two stages and in the sequence shown.

Apply engine oil to the crankcase bolt before
installation.

Crankcase bolt (M8): 1–4
1st: 15 N·m (1.5 kgf·m, 11 ft·lb)
2nd: 30 N·m (3.0 kgf·m, 22 ft·lb)
Crankcase bolt (M6): 5–0
1st: 6 N·m (0.6 kgf·m, 4.4 ft·lb)
2nd: 12 N·m (1.2 kgf·m, 8.7 ft·lb)
4. Install the union bolt to specified torque.
Union bolt:
40 N·m (4.0 kgf·m, 30 ft·lb)
5. Install the new gasket and breather cover
then tighten the bolts.
Breather cover bolt:
8 N·m (0.8 kgf·m, 5.8 ft·lb)
6. Install the dowel pins, new gasket,
exhaust cover, thermostat, new gasket
and thermostat cover and then tighten
the bolts to specified torques in two
stages in the sequence shown.

Exhaust cover and thermostat cover
bolt:
1st: 6 N·m (0.6 kgf·m, 4.4 ft·lb)
2nd: 12 N·m (1.2 kgf·m, 8.7 ft·lb)
