4. Check the thermostat valve opening at
the
specified

5. Install the thermostat and cover, and
then tighten the cover bolts to the speci-
fied torque.
Thermostat cover bolt:
7 N·m (0.7 kgf·m, 5.2 ft·lb)

Checking the cooling water passage

1. Check the cooling water inlet cover 1
and cooling water inlet for clogs. Clean if
necessary.

2. Place the lower unit in water, and then
start the engine.

3. Check for water flow at the cooling water
pilot holes. If there is no water flow,
check the cooling water passages inside
the outboard motor.

Control system

Adjusting the throttle link

NOTE:
For tiller handle models, adjust the throttle
link after adjusting the throttle cable.
1. Loosen the screw 1.
2. Turn the throttle cam 2 clockwise until it
contacts the stopper 3, and then hold it
in that position.
NOTE:
For remote control models, the throttle cam
cannot be turned unless the remote control
lever is shifted to forward.
3. Turn the throttle lever 4 clockwise so
that the throttle valve is fully open.
4. Tighten the screw.
